Safety

I have not always been kind to myself. I have not always eaten healthy; I have not always exercised; I’ve said harsh things to myself and others; I’ve put myself down for the sake of others… There are many things I have personally done in the past that do not show love or respect for who I am. Even though acknowledgement of these aforementioned actions (as well as others) has helped me deal with the negatively I created for myself, I still do some stuff, although hopefully not for long!

I’ve come to realize one simple thing though… It is sooooo easy to simply Honor exactly where I’m at right now. Not honoring where you are at comes through in your outlook and perception of life in ways you can’t see and don’t understand. When you are not honoring the place you are at, you get irritated at yourself and others: “Why can’t I have that?” “How come he got that new client and I didn’t?” “I want to do (that new thing that I can’t do because I’m here).” I could go on and on with the thoughts that permeate our subconscious and result in us ‘beating ourselves up’ over and over again, day after day.

The problem is that we don’t recognize that where we are right now is exactly where we need to be. And if we can love that place, and remember that it is ever-changing no matter what and we don’t have to stay there forever, we will begin to love ourselves again.

Here is one thing that I do to honor where I’m at and show appreciation for myself, and I’m going to use a specific example… I recently heard about a guy in the U.S. who, by the time he was 30 (he’s 31 now) had written 8 books and was a leading author in the field he is in (not far from my own field). Now, the old me would have said this, either consciously or subconsciously: “How did he do that?! I can’t believe I’m so far behind him! He’s getting his word out to all these people… those people could be coming to me! I know that stuff and I teach that stuff, I can’t believe he’s taking those clients away from me!”

Sound familiar? We do this on so many levels, and it really effects our vibration. We see someone younger who has done more than us, or we read about someone and the 50 non-profit organizations they’ve started in their lives, or we see that athlete that we envy and admire and wonder why that wasn’t us… and we scold ourselves for not being better! Let me ask you a question… Who does that serve???? The answer: NO ONE! =)

Because I honor where I am right now, here’s what I actually did when I heard this: I stopped what I was doing immediately, I shut my eyes, and I sent ‘Thanks’ to him for excelling in what he is passionate about. I didn’t know where he was, I didn’t know what he was doing, and I was not looking to ‘receive’ anything, I simply thanked him for his efforts. When I was done, I felt fantastic, and you know what I did? I went home and I wrote my first blog post.
